Author: Katie Williams

Genre: Thriller, Mystery, Science Fiction, Suspense, Psychological Fiction

Summary: My Murder is a fast-paced, science fiction mystery involving five women, all victims of the same serial killer. They are brought back from the dead, or rather, cloned by a shady government agency. The novel’s main focus is on one of the victims, named Louise, following her struggles with early motherhood, her marriage, and the reality of a life she has tried so hard to readapt to. But there’s much more to this story than you think…

Merca’s Review:

First thought on the first chapter, when they mention cloning was “whoop, Masha ain’t going to like the book, she hates science fiction” lol.

I agree with the roommate – the way Silas and Lou did her was a little dirty and had nothing to do with the story, but a back story I guess.

Ok, I finished the book and the book was confusing and a bit slow-paced. Painfully slow at times. The front cover promised something “darkly funny and deeply scary”, but I didn’t find it scary, funny, or much of a thriller.. “Utterly original,” I will give it that, since I have never read a book like this. But to me it wasn’t a thriller at all.

I’ll admit near the end I was so anxious for it to be over that I skipped 2–3 chapters.

Spoilers Ahead ⚠️

The ending felt silly.

I actually found myself laughing. To think the entire unraveling came down to postpartum… It did make me feel for her, but the story was so stretched out by then that the impact was dulled.

Overall, this book wasn’t what I expected. Slow-paced, confusing, and mismarketed in tone. Original, yes, but not a thriller in my opinion.

Masha’s Review:

Where do I even begin? This book was just not it for me. I gave it a shot, I went against my will to continue reading this and not DNF it, but it ended up being exactly what I expected it to be: meh.

Maybe it’s my hatred towards sci-fi and unrealistic social settings…

Spoiler alert ‼️

The ending was so boring and out of context that it made me wish she had just stayed dead. Why do authors feel the need to lead us on to then disappoint us? I’ll never understand that.

I’ll give it some sort of credit – the suspense throughout the book wasn’t terrible (although I didn’t really see any of the dark humor everybody kept going on and on about), which is why I’m upset the grand finale flopped.

It was definitely out of my comfort zone with all the cloning nonsense, not to mention the constant “auto” referral (I just assumed that meant car?).

Underwhelming to say the least. Would not recommend!
